It stays so nice in Texas for so long that the poor trees get confused and forget to drop their leaves early in the season. It is 71 degrees today but has recently been cool enough (most especially on the day that it snowed) that our beautiful tree in our front yard finally got it's time-to-shed-your-leaves memo. We looked out our window yesterday morning and could not see even a few inches of grass under the thick coverage of leaves. Not to mention, our tree's leaves were scattered all over the cul de sac and neighbors' yards. We didn't even have a rake to rake it; last year Hurricane Ike blew all the leaves off during its wrath and carried them away with it so we didn't have to deal with raking, the year before Eli was in the NICU and we just didn't care. So off to Walmart we went to purchase our much-needed rake and the boys helped me find some grass for our viewing pleasure.
Okay, I don't think what they did was actually called "helping" but we all had fun and Devin and I finished the job after we all played. Leaf-pile jumping is so darn fun! And since our neighbors don't have any leaf-pile producing trees of their own, some of them came to jump in (haha - get it?) on the fun.

I was just thinking today how it looks like fall outside our house, not winter. Our leaves have finally changed from green to yellow (only colors we have) and are just now falling off. But we don't have grass for them to fall on, just rocks.
